Piano Pitch Diagnostic by Burd and Sons Piano Service

A simple tool to help you choose the right tuning service for your instrument.

Discover whether your piano needs a Standard Tuning or a Pitch Adjustment.

Instructions:

  1. Allow the Pitch Checker to use your microphone. A mobile phone works best.

  2. Click “Start Listening.”

  3. Play Middle C (C4) and hold the key for 2–3 seconds.

  4. Release the key, then play Middle C again if needed to confirm the reading.

  5. Read the result displayed by the Pitch Checker.

Important Note:

If you get sporadic readings, it’s likely because the 3 strings that make up Middle C are so out of tune with each other that a good reading is not possible.

If this happens, it’s a clear sign that your piano is very out of tune and needs a pitch adjustment.
